Howdy! Welcome to the Mammary Atlas. This is a simple website where I have put a majority of my work, mostly maps, and graphic design. There is also some other stuff like writing and sick beats I made in FastTracker II.

I'm Philly (Any pronouns, you'll have to guess ;) ), better known as LaMamelle in the interwebs. I'm a professional GIS Technnician, but I also like to do all sorts of things on the side. I most make fun ficitonal maps on my free time, as well as designing graphics for said maps, like seals, flags, posters etc. My favorate kind of maps are National Park Unigrid Brochures which I have made many of.

I made this webside as a place to show off all the work that I've done in a more orgonized way since Reddit isn't the best at orginizing all your stuff. And god forbid I actually DeviantArt as a professional portfolio.

How do You Make Your Maps?

That depends, I make maps in a few diffrent ways:

Pure Inkscape

Now, I know how to use Adobe Illistrator, kinda, I am very poor. So I use this very cool and more importantly, free program called inkscape! It's an open source vector editor where you can like, draw stuff. Depending on what I'm doing I'll ususally start from scratch to make a map. However if I'm making a map that is based on real world data, I'll see if I can find boundaries or other kinda of data from wikicommons. If I'm not feeling lazy then I'll use ArcGIS Pro to convert gis data into an SVG format. This is typically how I make most of my fictional maps, since it can be easier to make changes to boundaries and stuff.

Inkscape + World Machine

A few years ago, I discovered a wonderful program called World Machine. It's a somewhat complex program that allows you to create realistic terrain. From the very little information I can find about this program online, it's sometimes used for terrain in movies and stuff? I dunno.It's also used for Minecraft, to make terrain that way, which I have also used it for, mostly making the terrain I make into minecraft worlds so I can explore it. Anyways, I use it to make terrain on maps if needed. I ususally use this for national park maps since it works really well for those kinds of projects. If you look at my favorite map, Saranoma Crater, the terrain for that was made in World Machine. I haven't used this for much else other than Unigrid maps, but I'm sure that there can be other uses.

ArcGIS Pro

I'll pay for an ArcGIS Pro license, or at least I will when my school eventually figures out that I'm still mooching off their student license that they gave me. This is a program I also use a lot, sometimes for fictional maps, but I also use it at work for the most part. When making fictional maps, I'll take data from public sources like state or local governments GIS sites. I get some data from USGS or data.gov but its not always easy to search through those sites. Talk to me some day and I'll go on a whole rant about how most GIS sources suck butt.

I mean, kinda? It depends on the project. I do work a full time job and I'm technically a student so I don't have a lot of free time. Some things I'll do for free, like if I think the project is super intresting then I'll just do it for my own fun and you can do whatever the hell you want with it. But if I am kinda meh about it (i.e. anything WW2 related) then I'm gonna charge you. Probs 75$ was a standard fee and then 15$ per hour I work on it. Same goes for any kinda design work, because I can do logos and etc.
